Browser extension

The KubeDrive extension is a companion to the desktop app: a browser cannot talk to your clusters itself (no kubeconfig, no auth plugins, CORS), so the extension opens things in KubeDrive and shows what KubeDrive already knows. It works in Chrome and Edge, Firefox and Safari.

What it does

  • Open in KubeDrive on any page: select kubectl -n web logs deploy/api or pod/api-5d8f, right-click, Open in KubeDrive. KubeDrive opens the object (logs, YAML, events) in a new tab.
  • Address bar: type kd prod deploy api -n web (Chrome and Firefox).
  • Cloud consoles: on an EKS, GKE or AKS cluster page the popup offers to open that cluster in KubeDrive, matched to your kubeconfig context by name.
  • Badge and popup: the number of problems across the clusters you shared, red when any is critical; the popup lists clusters with node and pod counts and the problems, each a link into KubeDrive.

The extension speaks your browser’s language: English or Russian.

The extension talks only to KubeDrive on 127.0.0.1 and to the console pages above. It has no analytics and sends nothing anywhere else.

Set it up

  1. In KubeDrive press ⌘K (Ctrl K on Windows), choose AI Agents…, click Turn On and tick the clusters the extension may see. The extension sees exactly what AI agents see: the clusters you share there, read-only, without secret values.
  2. Copy the token from the Browser extension snippet in that window.
  3. Open the extension’s settings, paste the token and click Test connection. In Firefox, allow access to 127.0.0.1 when asked.

The badge updates every two minutes while KubeDrive runs. A new token in KubeDrive turns the extension away until you paste the new one.

Install

  • Firefox: Add to Firefox from Firefox Add-ons. By hand instead: open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, Load Temporary Add-on…, pick manifest.json inside the unzipped kubedrive-firefox-<version>.zip from the releases page. A temporary add-on is removed when Firefox quits; the store version stays.
  • Chrome, Edge: until the Chrome Web Store lists it, load the build from the releases page by hand: unzip kubedrive-chrome-<version>.zip, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, Load unpacked, pick the folder.
  • Safari: ships inside KubeDrive.app; turn it on in Safari Settings → Extensions.

The extension builds kubedrive:// links, and you can use them yourself in runbooks, alerts and chat: kubedrive://open?context=prod&type=pods&namespace=web&name=api-5d8f&tab=logs opens a pod’s logs; kubedrive://open?context=prod&view=overview opens the cluster overview. KubeDrive asks before opening a cluster it has not opened before.
